Bandits on Wednesday afternoon in Ajata, Aboki in Gurmana ward of Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, attacked a mining site in Niger State and reportedly kidnapped three Chinese nationals.
The bandits also killed six security agents and civilians.
The Co-convener, Concerned Shiroro Youth of Niger State, Sani Kokki, confirmed the incident on Thursday.
He said the bandits attacked the mining site and opened fire on the workers and security operatives.
He also stated that the bandits kidnapped a yet-to-be-identified number of people including two Chinese expatriates.
In a related development, gunmen on Wednesday, ambushed and killed an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The yet-to-be-identified officer attached to the Rivers State Police Command was said to have been ambushed by the assailants while returning from work in the Oyigbo area.
The operative was said to have sustained injuries from gunshots and later died in the hospital.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack on the ASP.
The spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the killing.
Iringe-Koko said the state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka, had ordered an investigation into the incident with a view to unravelling the circumstances leading to the attack and bringing the perpetrators to book.
She said, “He was returning to his house after work around 9 pm or so when they ambush him. We will ensure they are fished out.
“Already the commissioner of police has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are identified and brought to book.”
