Operatives of Ogun State Security Network Agency codenamed AMOTEKUN CORPS on Tuesday 2nd May 2023, arrested two suspects for conspiracy and murder of one Umaru Aliu ‘M’ Alias “Lagi”, a herder at Ijagure village along Sagada, Imeko-Afon Local Government of the state.
A statement signed by the corps commander CP David A. Akinremi psc(+)rtd, revealed that Akinyele Adebayo ‘m’, 49, and Idosu Gbalo ‘m’, 30, were arrested by men of the corps attached to Imeko-Afon Local Government.
Akinremi said the crime was allegedly perpetrated on Sunday 30th April 2023 at about 1800 hours.
He said, “While the deceased and one Umaru Takake ‘M’ were grazing their cattle in the bush near the aforementioned village, information has it that one Fagbemi Kareem ‘M’, now at large, armed with a locally made single barrel gun and accompanied by four other persons, namely: Olorunto Segun ‘M’, Baba Shele ‘M’, Lana Ojugbele ‘M’ and Ashipa ‘M’, trailed the herders caught up with Umaru Aliu ‘M’ and allegedly shot him on a farmland belonging to one Chief Ogunlana Fagbemi ‘M’ Alias “Osewuya” at Ijagure village, while Umaru Takake ‘M’ narrowly escaped unhurt.
“On the same day at about 2000 hours, the duo of Olorunto Segun and Baba Shele allegedly contacted one Akinyele Adebayo ‘M’ to assist to dismember the corpse at the scene of crime and he obliged in the presence of other cohorts while Baba Shele took away the head of the deceased to unknown destination”.
The Commander explained further, “Thereafter, the remaining parts of the dismembered body were packed in a sack and buried in a pit near Oyan River at Oke-Ayo village in Imeko.
“The two arrested suspects on further interrogation admitted their various roles in the dastardly criminal act and took operatives of the Corps to the scene where the remaining parts of the body were dumped with several parts missing.
“The prime suspects; Fagbemi Kareem ‘M’ and Baba Shele ‘M’ were said to have been arrested by Ojio Police Division, Oyo State for the same offence, while Lana Ojugbele, Olorunto Segun and Ashipa are still at large.
“Consequently, the suspects Akinyele Adebayo and Idosu Gbalo are being transferred to Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further action and prosecution”.
The Corps Commander re-iterated the determination of Ogun Amotekun Corps to fight all forms of crime and criminality in the state and warned criminally minded individual that the “State will not be a safe haven for them”.
