Following the unfortunat accident involving a DAF truck with Registration No. APP 438 YA which rammed into a crowd of students, killing some and injuring others, Ojodu Grammar School, has been shut down.
The incident led to pandemonium in Ojodu area as students and hoodlums went on rampage, burning four police vehicles and the truck.
Massive deployment of policemen to the area saved the day.
Early Wednesday, students of the school and their parents were said to had protested the killing of two students and injuring of 12 others.
It was gathered that some parents were angry that the school re-opened for normal activities after students died.
Following the protest, the Lagos State Government shuts down the school and asked all students to go back home.
The government said the move was to commiserate with families of the victims and to address all the issues raised by the parents and other stakeholders.
Announcing the development on Wednesday, Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, who visited the school and the injured students, said that the visit was to ascertain what transpired and commiserated with the deceased students’ families, their teachers and colleagues.
Adefisayo said the ministry would be keeping Nigerians, particularly residents of Lagos abreast of any development on the incident.
Although there are reports that up to 15 students lost their lives in the accident, the Lagos State Police authorities confirmed that two students died in the crash.
Police Public Relationship Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, had in a statement said angry students, who were later joined by hoodlums, attempted to set ablaze Ojodu Police station for allegedly shielding the driver of the ill-fated truck.
The Lagos State Government shut down the school Bab Fafunwa Millennium School, until January 2022.
